About Parchment27

Parchment27 began as a simple act of cartographic curiosity — an attempt to chart the open web the way a gazetteer charts unfamiliar ground: methodically, without agenda, and with a preference for recording over rating. That first ledger has grown into a directory of 835 logged entries, organised into 22 gazette sections each representing a distinct territory of online commerce and service. The atlas is built on a straightforward premise: the web is large, its contents varied, and a well-kept registry is more useful than a ranked list. Every entry in Parchment27 has been submitted, reviewed, and dispatched to the appropriate section — not by an algorithm, but by a process of methodical classification in the tradition of printed gazetteers. Parchment27 does not charge for inclusion and does not accept payment in exchange for preferential placement. The gazette records what it finds; prominence in the registry reflects category and volume, not commercial arrangement. Entries are listed in the order in which they were logged. The directory spans a broad range of territories: from Dispensaries & Health Stations and Chambers & Legal Counsel to Travel Dispatches & Voyage Records and General Dispatches & Sundry Posts. Each section functions as its own compact atlas of that corner of the web, with entries providing a reference point rather than a recommendation. Parchment27 is freely browsable and freely open to submission. If you operate a site that fits within one of the 22 gazette sections, the Add Your Site form is available at any time. Accepted entries are dispatched to the registry on an ongoing basis, keeping the atlas current.
